Worship at 9:00 & 10:30 am
All are welcome!
Family of God is a
welcoming community of faith which has carried out ministry in the Brooklyn Park Area
since 1970. It is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in
America. Today's membership is a rich mix of individuals and families, longtime and
newer members, all from varying backgrounds, joined together to grow in faith and serve in
Christ's name. Members of all ages take part in worship, learning, outreach,
service, hospitality, friendship-building events and programs in youth and family
ministry. New member groups form at least twice a year, but whether or not you are
seeking a church home, your visit or call is welcome.

Fall
Stewardship Update
The
Stewardship committee is in the process of planning the fall
stewardship campaign. Our campaign theme will be “Let us
Talents and Tongues Employ.” On the evening of November 8th
we will gather for some laughs and fellowship when our Cornerstone
Room will be transformed into the FOG Comedy Club. Charles
Marshall, a nationally known Christian Comedian will provide the
entertainment, which will be followed by a desert reception. For
members with small children, child care will be provided.
Please join us
for hearty laughs and fellowship as we ask you to prayerfully
prepare your hearts for pledging to the stewardship campaign for
2009 on Pledge Sunday, November 16th.
Kitchen Updates
A new kitchen stove has been
donated and installed. Thank you to the
many hands that helped with preparing the area before installation
and for the installation itself. Thanks are also expressed to
Ruth Circle for the donated funds used for the repair of the
coffee maker.
Youth Auction/Spaghetti
Lunch
Family of God youth attending
the ELCA Youth Gathering in New Orleans, LA July 2009 will be
holding a youth auction/spaghetti lunch on Sunday, November 16th,
so mark your calendars now! Funds raised at this auction/lunch will
help to defray the $1000.00 per person cost to attend. We will
have many items which will include “themed” baskets to bid on. If
you would be interested in donating items to put in a basket to be
auctioned or assembling your own basket and donating it, we would be
very grateful. Maybe you have some other items you’d be willing to
donate (i.e. tickets to a sporting event, passes to a golf course, a
weekend get-away). If so, please contact Kris Simon. In addition to
the silent auction, the 20 youth attending “The Gathering” will also
be auctioning off their “time”. You can hire them to help out
around the house, assist with a birthday party; do yard work, baby
sit and other miscellaneous tasks. More details will be coming in
November.
Third Grade Gift Bibles
In October, our Third Grade
Sunday School children receive Bibles from the congregation,
inscribed by their parents.
This is a gift to honor the
Christian growth of children and it symbolizes one of the promises
made at infant baptism, "to place in their hands the holy
scriptures." This year's Bible presentation is planned for
Sunday, October 12 at the 10:30 worship. Staff members are
arranging with parents to get their child's Bible ahead of time from
church. We invite parents to check the date and confirm your
child's participation. The Sunday School and children's choirs will
be singing a special song that day.
5th Grade
Acolytes
The 6-8th grade
confirmation classes are expected to help with worship by serving as
acolytes, but this service is also open as an option to 5th
graders. If your 5th grade son/daughter would like to
serve as an acolyte, please contact the church office for more
information.
Chat Room
Chat roomwill begin Sunday, October 12,
10:30 am in the Youth Room. Youth in grades 6 and above are
invited to come. Topics discussed will be about every day lives and
how they relate to the Bible.
