Family of God is a welcoming community of faith which has carried out ministry in the Brooklyn Park Area since 1970. It is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Today's membership is a rich mix of individuals and families, longtime and newer members, joined together to grow in faith and serve in Christ's name. Members of all ages take part in worship, learning, outreach, service, hospitality, friendship-building events and programs in youth and family ministry. New member groups form at least twice a year, but whether or not you are seeking a church home, your visit or call is welcome. |

The Season of Pentecost: The weeks and months that take us from spring to fall make up the season of Pentecost, sometimes called “Ordinary Time” or the “Time of the Church.” The liturgical color is green, like the green of outdoors in summer. Growth in faith is a theme of this time, as Jesus is seen leading and teaching followers in the Sunday worship scenes from the Gospels. This is a “between” time, when the church looks back upon Jesus’ earthly ministry and forward to God’s future, as we make our pilgrim journey. We recognize the guidance of the Holy Spirit, sent to the first believers as Jesus promised in the power of wind and fire on the day of Pentecost. We sing with believers through the ages, “Spirit of God, descend upon my heart.” |

As a Family of God Charter Member, I have seen many changes over the years. Things that come to mind are our physical worship spaces from our first meeting at Crestview School to our existing church building, which was well worth the wait. Then there is the growth in membership, committed pastoral leadership, many choices to join and serve, and all that wonderful music. Our congregation saw some challenging problems, but it always sustained loyal, dedicated and faith-driven members that inspired me to remain a member of Family of God. May God continue to be with us as we work together in His name, through his son, Jesus. I’d like to share my Confirmation verse as we go forward together: “Blessed are they that hear the Word of God and keep it.” (Luke 11:28) I am so glad to be a member of FOG for 40 years and running!
