Family of God is a
welcoming community of faith which has carried out ministry in the Brooklyn Park Area
since 1970. It is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in
America. Today's membership is a rich mix of individuals and families, longtime and
newer members, joined together to grow in faith and serve in Christ's name. Members
of all ages take part in worship, learning, outreach, service, hospitality,
friendship-building events and programs in youth and family ministry. New member
groups form at least twice a year, but whether or not you are seeking a church home, your
visit or call is welcome. |
|
**Please join us for Lenten worship
on Wednesdays at 7 pm through March 24. Soup suppers will precede each
worship service beginning at 5:45 pm. |

New Website Survey
Please
take a moment to provide us with your thoughts on our
church website. Your feedback will assist us in
making any changes necessary to make our website more
user friendly and provide the information you want to
see. Thanks! Surveys will be available on
the table by Gwen's desk starting Monday, or
click here to submit form online.
It’s time to register for
summer camp!
There is a
camping experience for all youth completing 2nd – 12th grade at Lake
Wapogasset Lutheran Bible Camp. A non-refundable $100 deposit is due
at the time of registration. Registration will begin on Sunday,
Feb. 21, and will continue on Sundays through March 7. Registrations
will also be taken on Wednesdays, Feb 24 – Mar 10. Please note:
March 10 is the absolute last day to register for camp. For camp
dates & other information, please visit the
youth page on our website or contact Kris Simon.
Palm Sunday Potluck/FOG Anniversary Cookbooks
On Palm Sunday, March
28, we will welcome new members into our
congregation. Please join us following the second
service for a special POTLUCK. We would like to
accomplish two goals with this potluck: a.) get to know
our new members better and b.) prepare and serve as many
recipes from our new cookbook as possible. Of course,
the second item is optional, but there certainly are so
many GREAT recipes in the 40th Anniversary Cookbook.
Many of you may not be aware that we have hundreds of
the cookbooks still available. The cost per book is as
follows: 1 – 2 books, $15.00 each, 3 or more are $12.00
each. Please consider purchasing a cookbook from which
to prepare a potluck delight and remember what great
gifts church cookbooks are. In addition, would you
consider “taking your cookbook to work” to display and
take orders?
New Member Group
New member
classes are scheduled for Sundays, March 7, 14, & 21,
following the 10:30 worship. New members will be welcomed as a group
on Palm Sunday, March 28. If you would like a letter of invitation
or have questions, a staff member will be glad to speak with you, or
you can make note on a Welcome Card at church.
Youth Plant Sale
The youth will once again
be having a plant sale. We are working with Gertens who
will provide a variety of bedding plants – annuals and
perennials, patio pots, tomato plants & hanging baskets
in a variety of colors. All orders must be paid for at
the time of ordering, Mar. 17 – Apr. 1. Youth
attending camp & Wilderness Canoe Base Work Crew will be
selling hanging baskets to help defray the cost of camp
and trip. Funds raised by the other plant sales will be
used to support youth ministry at Family of God.
Plants can be picked up May 8, from 9am – 3pm which
is just in time for Mother’s Day!
First Communion Instruction
First Communion
instruction or 5th graders will be offered on four Sundays, Feb 21 –
Mar 14 during the 10:30 Sunday School hour. We are excited about the
new study material, “Fed and Forgiven.” Parent/student workshop will
be held on Saturday, Mar 20, 9-11 am. Celebration of First Communion
will be on Sunday, March 21 at 10:30 am. More information will be
coming, but thank you for marking your calendar now for this special
step in faith.
First Communion Workshop
Saturday, March 20
9-11 am
Fifth Graders are
preparing in class and at home for First Communion on
Sunday, March 21. At this Saturday workshop, parents and
students join with staff and teachers, Mark Kitoski and
Kris Johnson in sharing time about faith and meanings on
the sacrament using a DVD, “Fed + Forgiven.” We will
practice for Communion and bake a special bread recipe
for Sunday.
Other youth who may be new to our congregation and
already communing or ready to do so but are not in the
5th grade class are encouraged to speak with Pastor
Paul, Randi Cragg, or Kris Simon with any questions you
have and are welcome at the parent/student workshop.
Easter Breakfast
Plan to attend our sixth
annual Easter Breakfast on Sunday, April 4. The
youth attending Wilderness Canoe Base Work Crew this
summer will be serving. Monies raised will be used to
defray the cost to attend. This year’s menu will include
egg dish, sausage links, hashbrowns, cinnamon & caramel
rolls, yogurt cup, milk, juice, & coffee. All items will
be sold ala carte – you only buy what you want to eat!
Breakfast will be served approximately between 8:15 –
10:45 am so you can begin your morning having
breakfast and then worshipping or worshipping and
staying for breakfast. If you are interested in donating
a food item, please contact Kris Simon. The youth thank
you in advance for your support.
Community Service
What community? FAMILY OF
GOD Service by whom? Men and youth from Family of God. A
few weeks ago a group of almost 20 men at FOG decided
that they would be willing to assist, one time in the
Spring and once in the Fall, individuals of FOG get
‘stuff’ done around the house. Not to purchase but to
repair this or replace that. Soon there will be an
announcement asking individuals that may need a little
help in getting ready for the Spring to let Pastor Paul
or Randi know of their interest and what the task may
be. Not every task will be doable by this group. But the
interest is high and the experience is deep. We even
have people available to carry a bag or two of the heavy
salt to the softener! This can be a wonderful
opportunity for the youth to be an active participant
and be of assistance to some of our members.
Spring Musical
Spring Musical:
“On the Air” will be presented by the intergenerational drama
ministry in March, so save the dates! “On the Air” is a regionally
written musical based on old time radio shows, complete with
vignettes from “The Bickersons,” “I love a Mystery,” “The Shadow,”
and so on. There will also be many old time commercial jingles and
some period patriotic songs from the 30’s and 40’s. “On the Air” was
performed several times at Chanhassen Dinner Theaters in the 80’s
and 90’s. Come and enjoy a time when imaginations were lively and
radio was king. Performance dates are Thursday, March 18th at
7pm, Friday, March 19th, at 7pm, Saturday, March 20th, at 7pm, and
Sunday on March 21st, at 3pm. No tickets are required. A free
will offering will be taken. Family, friends, and members of the
community are all invited.
