Melissa's Music "Notes"

Speaking of themes (see January edition of Melissa's "Notes"), have you noticed a certain similarity or continuity in the prelude and postludes? In this season of Epiphany where we learn about Christ and his mission and identity, I have chosen to prepare and share some pedagogical pieces of the great composer and Lutheran church organist, Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750). The "Eight Little Preludes and Fugues" were most likely pieces he composed to teach others as they highlight a variety of techniques and explore many keys, very similar to his keyboard collection "The Well-Tempered Clavier."

All throughout January and February you will hear this grand German Baroque style of quasi-improvisatory preludes and the imitative and highly structured fugues. May they be enlightening for all of us in this season of light!

Joyful Noise Jan-Apr 2012 Schedule JN & SP Joint Jan-Feb 2012 Schedule Wednesdays 5:30-6:00 pm	Joyful Noise, under the direction of Kris Simon, is for children ages 4 – grade 2. This choir rehearses Wednesday evenings from 5:30-6:00 pm in the Sunday School area.Friends are welcome!
Sing Praise! Jan-Apr 2012 Schedule JN & SP Joint Jan-Feb 2012 Schedule Wednesdays 6:00-6:30 pm	Sing Praise!, under the direction of Kris Simon, is for kids in grades 3-5. The choir rehearses Wednesday evenings from 6:00-6:30 pm in the Sunday School area. Friends welcome!
All in All Choir Jan-Apr 2012 Schedule Wednesdays 6:30 – 7:00 pm	All in All Choir under the direction of Kris Simon, is our choir for youth in grades 6-12.
Chancel Choir Wednesdays 7:15 – 8:30 pm	Chancel Choir, under the direction of Melissa Bergstrom, is our choir for all adults.
Choir Rehearsal & Singing Schedules	Choir Rehearsal & Singing Schedules for all children and youth choirs can be found on the FoG website under “choirs” and listed on the monthly “Youth Happenings” newsletter on the calendar side. Any changes to the calendar will be posted on the website. Schedules will also be given out at the first rehearsal of each choir.
