Minneapolis Crisis Nursery

The Minneapolis Crisis Nursery provides respite for parents stretched to the breaking point. Whether due to mental illness, domestic violence, poverty or difficulty parenting, the Crisis Nursery provides parents time and services they need to move out of crisis mode and begin addressing their needs. Meanwhile the children have time to play, laugh, eat well and sleep soundly.

We have signed up to provide supper at the Minneapolis Crisis Nursery located in Golden Valley on six Thursdays. Volunteers report to the nursery at 4:00, prepare the food, serve it to the kids and staff, eat, share the meal with the kids, clean up and leave by 6:00 pm. Our dates are January 14, March 11, May 13, July 8, September 9 and November 11. Please watch for a sign-up sheet. We need 3-4 volunteers per time. Volunteers must be 12 years or older.

World and Domestic Hunger

World and Domestic Hunger giving opportunities will be a January emphasis. Enclosed in this newsletter is an ELCA brochure with a World Hunger offering envelope. There will also be information in Sunday bulletins starting January 10.

Social Ministry Updates

CEAP Foodshelf donations: Thank you to everyone for the generous response in February. The food will be delivered to CEAP after March 1, so your cash donations or groceries are still welcome and will be matched by businesses as part of Minnesota FoodShare Month.

Mission News

Family of God helps support the work of Rev. Clifford Lewis at St. Andrew United Church, in Cairo, Egypt. This ELCA Global Mission site is a worshiping community and hosts the Joint Refugee Ministry. More information is at www.elca.org. Members may sign up to give a week’s support of $30 on the 2010 Mission Support Chart.
