5th Grade Acolytes
The
6th-8th grade confirmation classes are expected to help with worship
by serving as acolytes, but this service is also open as an option
to 5th graders. If your 5th grade son/daughter would like to serve
as an acolyte, please contact the church office about training times
or other questions. An acolyte instruction sheet is posted on the
Get Involved page under Volunteering.
The Spark Story Bible
is an
award-winning Bible for young children, being used for the second year
in our Sunday School with Pre-school – 2nd grade. Published by Augsburg
Fortress, it includes 150 Bible stories with extraordinary artwork and
engaging text that is easy to understand and fun to read aloud. If you
would like to buy a copy as gift or to use at home, cost is $20. Inquire

Birthday
Pennies:
We’re going to celebrate birthdays in Sunday school this year. On the
first Sunday of every month you can bring your pennies/spare change
[enough to represent each year of your age] and we’ll count out how old
you are.
Special Sunday: Third Graders receive
Bibles.

Schedule
Change
We’re excited that
beginning October 9th, all students, teachers and
helpers will begin Sunday School in church! This will be the
practice every Sunday EXCEPT the first Sunday of the month.
On the Sundays that the students are in church, they will
participate in the service through the Young Person’s Message and
then be dismissed to Sunday School. Gathering hymns & liturgy will
be chosen with the students in mind. This is going to be a wonderful
way for the children to become more familiar with the seasons,
liturgy, hymns of the church, as well as Pastors Paul and Sarah.
Sunday School Corner (for all ages)
Welcome to the Sunday School Corner. We have lots of
exciting things happening in Sunday School! We are using the Spark
curriculum from Augsburg Fortress again this year. It’s our intention to
let everyone know what’s happening throughout the year and provide all
members with the opportunity to participate in small ways.
One of the ways everyone can be
involved is to watch for the “Eye/Ear Spark” that will be listed in the
bulletin every Sunday. Each week there is a discussion point or simple
activity to do at home that reinforces the Sunday school lesson. For
example, on October 2nd the story is the Woman at the Well. The “Eye/Ear
Spark” for the week is a discussion question that asks Describe a time
you were VERY thirsty and the water you drank never tasted so good.
These activities are also found on a weekly take-home sheet that is
given to each Sunday school child. By including them in the bulletin we
hope everyone will have a chance to participate. The education committee
would love to hear what you think of these “Sparks.”
